My name is Riya, and I am one of the co-presidents of HerScope. I am a second-year biopsychology major, with a minor in women's studies. I became interested in women's health after experiencing in my community how lack of education and stigma can affect how women perceive themselves and truly believe that what is scientifically "normal" is shameful and to be hidden. As co-president and an advocate for women's health education, HerScope allows me to spread awareness about women's health and reach our Davis community.

Christy Marie Nguyen is a women’s health researcher studying how reproductive biology influences lifelong health, with a focus on metabolism and endocrine function. She is completing her Ph.D. at the University of California, Irvine, where she studies ovarian RNA splicing as a link between reproductive dysfunction and metabolic health in polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS). Building on this, she will pursue postdoctoral training investigating interorgan communication during maternal adaptation and other reproductive transitions. Ultimately, she aims to lead an independent research program in women’s health and sex-informed biology, deepening our understanding of how reproductive and endocrine physiology shape health across the lifespan while developing the next generation of scientists who will continue advancing the field.

Dr. Dequina Nicholas is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the University of California, Irvine. Her research examines how the immune system affects endocrine health, with a focus on polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS). Her lab is investigating the biological pathways involved in PMOS and identifying potential drug targets for new treatments.

Dr. Nicholas earned her Ph.D. in biochemistry from Loma Linda University and completed postdoctoral training at Boston University and UC San Diego. She received the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award and is committed to training the next generation of scientists.
